Elderly residents looking forward to flowering borders in an East Ardsley sheltered housing complex, have been left confused after the pots arrived with no-one to plant them.

Local Councillor Karen Renshaw was delighted to have secured the climbing plants, which include honeysuckle, clematis and ivy, and was told the local ALMO would arrange planting.

However, faced with 40 pots and no assistance, elderly residents and the local warden had to carry out the work themselves.

Despite the confusion, residents and Councillor Renshaw hope the flowers will provide a burst of colourful blooms and summer scents over the coming months.

Councillor Karen Renshaw (Lab, Ardsley & Robin Hood) said: "The plants are beautiful, and I am obviously delighted we have been able to secure them for the residents. But it was a real shame that residents had to unexpectedly carry out the work themselves.

"I want to thank the local warden and one of the resident's son for all their help in actually getting the plants in the ground. Once the plants have got established I hope we will see a lovely, scented border around these homes.

"This is a simple way to really improve a local environment. Flowers make communities look better and make people feel happier. It will be lovely to see the border in full bloom."
