Residents in Thorpe are calling for a crackdown on speeding motorists they say are putting people at risk.
Those living on the Oakland and Milner Lane estates are also concerned about high volumes of traffic travelling along Longthorpe Lane and Thorpe Lower Lane.
And concealed entrances to the two estates make the situation even more dangerous, they say.
Along with local councillor Jack Dunn, they are now urging Leeds City Council to lower the speed limit on the road to 30mph.
Donald Grayston, who lives on the Oakland estate, said: "There is a T-junction at the end of the road and trying to drive out of there from our estates is horrendous.
"People daren't come out for fear of other drivers belting over the hill. People have complained a number of times but nothing is being done.
"Drivers think it's an open road but when they get to the bottom they realise there are traffic lights and slam on. It needs sorting out before there's a really serious accident."
Coun Dunn said the speed limit on the road must be urgently reviewed.
"In my view, the only option is to reduce the limit on this section of road to 30mph. A sign on Thorpe Lane was altered to be 30mph as it comes past the Winthorpe estate, a built-up area, but then it goes up to 40mph in the rural area, then up to 60mph on Lower Thorpe Lane.
"Although it is a semi-rural area, the sheer volume of traffic coming from Middleton and Lingwell Gate Lane is creating a real danger for local people.
"It's not even the fault of the drivers as they are just going at the speed the road allows. The council need to look at the speed limit and lower it. I am asking them to put the safety of local residents first."
A Leeds City Council spokesman said: "We are aware of Coun Dunn's concerns and will assess, as soon as possible, whether there is a need for a change to the speed limit along this stretch of road.
"Since the existing speed limit was set, several residential developments have been built which have increased the amount of traffic in the area.
"This, along with other factors such as the number of accidents along the stretch of road, will have to be considered before any decision is made."
