Allan Snowden – a man whose try-scoring exploits once thrilled the crowds at Hunslet's famous Parkside ground – has died.

His rugby career started with the 15-man code and he played for Roundhay Rugby Union Club before making the switch to the the professional game, signing for Hunslet Rugby League Club.
* Click here to sign up to free news and sport email alerts from Middleton Today.In the 1956-57 season Allan scored a record 34 tries for Hunslet and later enjoyed a spell playing for Halifax.
Peter Guest, who played with Allan at Roundhay, said: "Allan was a fine player. He was a graceful and assured runner who scored a lot of tries."
Allan, who was born in Leeds and attended Burley School, was an all-round sportsman.
* Click here for latest Middleton, Hunslet & Belle Isle news.He was a member at Roundhay Golf Club and enjoyed a game just a few days before his death. As well as playing golf twice a week, he played tennis and regularly visited the gym.
He began his newspaper career as a printer's apprentice and rose to become production director.
Allan's hobbies included gardening and as a music lover he enjoyed attending jazz concerts.
His funeral takes place at St John the Baptist Church, Adel, at 12.45pm on Wednesday.
Allan, who lived in Adel, leaves a widow, Betty, two children, Jill and Graham, and three grandchildren.
