Caretaker boss Gary Lord has confirmed he would like to coach Hunslet Hawks on a permanent basis.
Lord will take charge of Hawks for the first time when they visit Rochdale Hornets in Co-op Championship One tomorrow.
The second- team coach was placed in charge after Graeme Hallas quit this week.
Lord had a spell at the helm of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats' Academy side and was assistant-coach at Gateshead Thunder.
He said: "I'm not coming in blind, I have got experience, but like anything it's just a case of getting your chance.
"You have got to take it when it comes."
Hawks have an injury-hit squad, with Aiden Faal (groin) ruled out and Nathan Larvin (dead leg) and Nico Slain (knee) both major doubts for tomorrow.
"It is never easy when the coach leaves," Lord said. "The players are disappointed that Graeme's gone and so am I, but that's the decision he has taken."
Hallas' departure followed last weekend's 42-16 defeat at Swinton.
Lord admitted that was a major setback, but said he is looking for "improvement all the way through" tomorrow.
Hunslet Hawks (at Rochdale): Sheldrake, Mark, Moss, Brown, Reittie, Fawcett, Moxon, Hart, Young, Lowe, Dooler, Watson, Wabo. Subs to be named.
Referee: Mohamed Drizza (Montpellier).
Kick-off: Sunday, July 5, 3pm.
