The organisers of the Hunslet Festival have thanked local businesses for helping to ensure this year's event went ahead.
The gala, which took place on Saturday, June 21, drew hundreds of people who had turned out to back the free community event, featuring face-painting to fairground rides.

Earlier fundraising troubles had threatened to make this the last Hunslet Festival Gala.

But last-minute support from local businesses Mecca Bingo and Little Legz play zone saved the day. The event committee has to raise £2,500 each year to cover insurance and other essential costs.

Ian Logan, Hunslet Festival publicity officer said that the gala was crucial to the LS10 postal code area because "it is a chance to bring all the community groups together for the day".

There has been an annual gala in Hunslet since 1993.

Fairs, or feasts as they are known, were first held in Hunslet in the 1800s.
