BTCV's Skelton Grange Environment Centre has celebrated the achievements of volunteers in a special 'Spring into Action' event.
The event brought together volunteers from Leeds and York, who between them have given more than 1,000 days of their time to BTCV, making environmental improvements for the benefit of the community.
They spent a sunny morning creating willow arches and seats in Skelton Grange's wildlife gardens, making a natural seating area for visiting schoolchildren.
This was followed by a thank you lunch and presentation of certificates from BTCV's group operations director Ron Fern to recognise their amazing contributions.
"BTCV relies on volunteers to help us achieve all the positive environmental changes that we make, from teaching children about the world around them to caring for wildlife habitats," said Caroline Crossley, centre manager at Skelton Grange. "They are an incredible group of people from all walks of life, who share a passion for making a difference."
'Green Hero' certificates were also presented to Julie Brown, regional award winner in the Better Life category for BTCV's annual Green Hero awards, and the Friends of Skelton Grange volunteer group, regional winners of the Project of the Year award. Julie, who has been regularly volunteering at Skelton Grange for over two years, has a visual impairment and taking part in physical tasks as part of a group has increased her confidence and quality of life. The Friends of Skelton Grange have been recognised for their efforts in supporting a valuable community resource used by thousands of adults and children each year.
BTCV's Spring into Action campaign runs until June 8.
It is supported by Prudential plc and the Cabinet Office, and also works in partnership with the BBC Breathing Places campaign. There are around 1,000 eco-events taking place across the UK, from wildlife gardening to tree-planting and open to people from all ages and backgrounds.
No previous experience required - just enthusiasm!
