BTCV Skelton Grange Environment Centre organised its third successful 'Big Tidy Up' event this month, with volunteers returning for a day of clean-up action on the Transpennine Trail in South Leeds.

email alerts from Middleton Today.This canal-side path is a hotspot for littering and dumping unwanted junk, so fifteen green-minded volunteers from BTCV Skelton Grange and Sustrans spent the day litter-picking on the trail, collecting twenty-four bags of rubbish and creating a nicer environment for the dog walkers and cyclists who regularly use it.

It offers a range of fun, hands-on environmental education activities for schoolchildren which aim to encourage an interest in the natural world.
"The Big Tidy Up was really successful," said BTCV Skelton volunteer Claudio Stahl. "It's encouraging to see what a big difference a few people can make towards a better environment in such little time."
BTCV is supporting the Big Tidy Up, the country's biggest ever litter tidy up, organised by Keep Britain Tidy.
